Toxic Parenting

Parenting is one of the most challenging jobs for parents. Children and parents will have a conflict of ideas because of a generation gap. ... In the long run, parents also need to adjust their behaviour to fit the interests and needs of their children as they grow up. The kids believe that their parents are the best people on the planet for them. Parents strive to provide the best possible care for their children. But are often insufficient to meet their mental, psychological, physical, and intellectual needs. Parents are so caught up in the dilemma of their lives that they speak toxic words to their children in a moment of anger. This has a debilitating effect on them throughout their lives. Parents sometimes use noxious phrases to discipline their kids that passed from one generation to the next. Without checks and balances on how they affect their personalities. Sarcastic comments or uttering words in anger might damage their self-esteem, confidence, and mutual trust and destroy their worldview. Parents should avoid some of these words with children. Here are a few of the most common toxic words and phrases parents use against their children during stress. Which can hurt their self-esteem and confidence and cause lifelong psychological damage.
Commenting on social skills You can develop your social skills over time. It's a lifelong exercise to perfect. Negative remarks about social skills, like "you are so timid, shy, anxious, you are a nervous wreck", can crush their social confidence and self-worth. These comments may backfire, rather than improve social skills.
Commenting on physical features Children do not have complete control over their appearance. Insulting a child based on their appearance is humiliating. Comments like "you are a dwarf and should keep your physical fitness in mind", "you are ugly", "you have a lousy face", "you are unattractive", "you have awful hair", "you're as skinny as a stick".It makes kids feel self-conscious and instills a fear of judgment. These words may ruin a kid's self-esteem. Children should feel loved by their parents as they are. Making critical comments about their appearances will not assist parents in grooming their appearances.
Use fear as a weapon to discipline "Don’t be so passive", "don't lose yourself over the small stuff ",don't get into a fight with your siblings". Parents use anger as a weapon to discipline their misbehaviour. According to the psychologist, creating fear in children to prevent them from doing certain activities is ineffective in the long run. When parents are not around, children will repeat this behaviour. To lay a solid foundation for a future, crucial to explain the negative consequences of their actions with love.
Comparisons To help their children perform better, parents compare their performance to their peers, such as classmates, cousins, or siblings. It makes them jealous and develops unhealthy relationships with others who are superior to them in certain areas. Each child is born with a unique set of talents, that parents must admit and develop. Unhealthy comparisons harm mental health and strangle their creativity..
Silent treatment The silent treatment is a form of communication used by parents to express their displeasure with their children. A nonverbal retaliation with the implicit message that you injured me, and now I'm harming you. Children feel helpless when faced with such a situation. When stress overwhelms naive parents, they utilise this strategy. Once a youngster notices that their parent is not responding, they become nervous, frightened, and disturbed. Rather than being silent, parents should acknowledge their anger. And find a constructive way to express it to resolve the conflict.
Emotional blackmailing Children are often manipulated by their parents using guilt, shame, coercion, and warnings to follow their wishes. Unfortunately, many parents are unaware of the consequences for their children. Emotional blackmailing is a poor approach to regulating conduct. It may appear to be effective right away, but it is ineffective in the long run. "Don’t expect me to love you if you don't do well in school" ; "If you don't do well in sports, don't expect my favour. " Parents use these phrases to improve their attitudes. Parents should not use these phrases but instead, look at the underlying reasons behind their behaviour. Understand their issues, and points of view. Try to correct their behaviour with patience, love, and tenderness. These methods take time and do not produce results immediately. But children can reap the benefits throughout their lives.
