The exams period is about to begin. All students are busy with their study schedules. Students have one and only one aim in mind: to achieve excellent results on their exams. We all study hard to the best of our abilities.... Often we do things unwittingly that hurt our ability to do well in exams. We have outlined a few things that you should avoid doing before exams.
Study Late Night or Whole NightDo you believe studying all night or late at night before an exam would result in good marks? Do you think that studying late at night will help your brain retain more information and make it easier to recall important facts during an exam? If that's the case, you're mistaken. A study marathon all night will only make you sleep-deprived, drained, absent-minded and puzzled. You may be unable to recollect facts that you have memorised if you do not get enough sleep before a test. Take plenty of sleep, but not more than you habitually do.
CrammingWhen students have to study a substantial portion of the curriculum in a short amount of time, they generally turn to cram. Cramming limits your brain's ability to transfer information from the short-term to the long-term memory. When it comes to the actual application of academic knowledge, it will undoubtedly fall short. Furthermore, students who try to memorise the syllabus just before the exam may not be able to recall much of it when answering the questions. Students should study regularly throughout the semester and revise rather than cram.
Overconsumption of CaffeineA limited amount of caffeine can help you relax your body and mind and boost your focus. Sipping excessive amounts of tea or coffee the night before an exam can lead to poor quality sleep, and poor sleep affects one's performance in the exam. The night before the test, limit yourself to just one or two cups of tea.
Over StressYou must take care yourself during the exam to avoid any exam-related stress. Stress can make you panic. A bit of stress is fine before an exam, and it may help you focus and sharpen your mind, but stress in excess is devastating. Stress can affect your test-taking ability and make it harder to recall information you've already absorbed. Breathing techniques, mindfulness, positive thinking, yoga, a balanced diet, appropriate water consumption, and exercise are all suggested to cope with panic attacks.
Dehydration and an unbalanced dietIf you want to excel in your exam, you must keep your body healthy and hydrated. Fatigue or low energy will impair your focus on your exams and make it difficult to make good choices. Even mild dehydration might result in headaches, fatigue and dizziness. To avoid dehydration, everyone should drink enough water. Students should avoid fatty foods and fast food. During the examination time, high-fibre foods are recommended. Balanced diet consumption during exams plays a key role in excelling in performance. Both overeating and undereating should be avoided.
Continuous Studying for Long HoursA lengthy study session without any breaks makes your brain less effective. It is beneficial to take frequent breaks between study marathons, but you must keep them to a minimum. The gap between study routines improves attention and concentration. Taking five-minute breaks from studying every 80 minutes allows the brain to unwind. Pick the suitable form of activity for your study break wisely so that you can back to your study fresh and focused. Walking, stretching, taking a shower, meditating, and taking a quick nap are some of the activities you can do during your study breaks.
Sitting long hours in the same postures Change the sitting position after a long while. Sitting in the same posture for long periods strains the lower back, shoulders, and neck. As the brain and body are inextricably linked, taking care of your body by changing your seating postures can assist your body to relax. Stretching also aids in the relaxation of the body.
